This will be the only piece of information i will ever share in regards to the world and the pandemic that is Corona Virus. If there is something i am learning out of this is that socialism can thrive in this universe we live in. I am learning that capitalism is a conditioning sustained by the inferiority complex that comes with being rich and privileged. Why you may ask? Corona has gotten the whole world doing the bare minimum, being human. Everyone is respecting boundaries, something that over the time, the privileged have found no need to respect.
The intention in which people are respecting boundaries is not born out of hatred as capitalism would have us have it, it is purely out of preservation and protection not only for self but also for each. Corona has had us checking up on one another and wishing each other well and safety in a world that has proven unsafe for us all. Normally, it is the womxn, the girls, the children, the LGBTIQAGNC+ persons and all gender minorities across the world that are at risk with poverty as the biggest contributing factor, but Corona is teaching us that all we have to do is care enough for the next person for survival to be a thing.
Corona is teaching us that poverty is not only for the poor, and that the poorest people are not those that lack money but rather those that lack humanity and humane values in them. Corona is showing us in definition how natural selection works. Not that it is a good reference but Corona is showing us despite Italy being a first world country, when it comes to a pandemic, a lot contributes to how resources are distributed and that will determine what the future of humanity will look like.
Corona is teaching us that there should not be stupid references like “ Linda is a very clean person” we all have to be clean because that is how we protect each other. Corona has our government systems putting effort to at least do the work they are supposed to do. For the first time in almost three decades of my existence, the city council of Nairobi county has erected sinks with supply of water and soap at the CBD to ensure people can conveniently clean their hands for safety. This i tell you is a first and i hope it is one of many.
Corona has had me seeing my president address the nation everyday of the week. You see over 170 womxn have died of Femicide in kenya in the last 15 months and not once have i seen that guy Uhuru come out to say anything about it. The equalizer that is Corona is not targeting specific gender like Femicide and Rape is and because for once men are affected, men have come out to try provide solutions.
In the history of public transport, until the Late Michuki, i hope he is resting as he deserves, who tried to create sanity, there has always been make believe that it has to be rowdy, congested, full of violence, abuse against especially womxn and unconsented touch. But Corona the equalizer came and halved it all. PSVs are transporting people from one end of Nairobi to another with the same normal transportation fares and on top of that, comfort, not having to suffocate with sweat and bodily scents that are unpleasant. More to that, you get to sanitize each time before boarding a matatu and that is almost an innovation in the Kenyan transport industry.
Corona is proving that all we have to do is remember that no womxn is an island, i mean, no matter how much you amass for yourself, if Corona finds you, it will not think you are safe enough. Corona is teaching us that technology should not be used to hurt others but to ensure that it creates a village out of the world. See you can Uber Eat, Glovo and whatever other means to your stomach at the comfort of your home. Restaurants only have to do thing you do not want to do, COOK. Also i wonder how fast you have realized takeouts and your ability to afford them is a fucking privilege!!!
Corona has proved to you that every time you are living your life safely, a doctor somewhere, or a nurse or practically any person who works in the service provision industry across the world is risking their safety. I hope you remember from now on that being Kind is the bare minimum of humanity.
Corona has proven that virtual systems are possible. People are working from home,( i hope you know that is a privilege too), something that could never have happened if Corona was not a reality. It has had us sharing even what we do not have.
Corona is teaching us that Homophobia and all types of inequalities are all in your mind. Because ultimately, when it comes down to the wire, it does not matter how different you are, all that matters is that you are human and queer or not, Corona will find you, catch you by making you catch it, and kill you.
Corona has had me see how y’all fear death. If your biggest fear is death, then i hope Corona is helping you learn that to live freely is to live with no fear of death, because what is the essence of fearing death, yet no one will leave this life alive??
On prayer, it is good as long as you think it is but ultimately Corona is schooling us on actioning our existence. You see pray all you want, but the only way you won’t catch Corona is through; sanitizing frequently, social distancing, washing your hands, self quarantining etc, which brings me to the point, why the emphasis on prayer yet if whoever we are supposed to be praying to allegedly has power beyond human understanding and still let Corona the pandemic happen to his alleged creation, just think about it for a moment.
On a lighter note, Corona saw me meeting a guy randomly in the CBD with a bag with through holes on his head and that was just about the most hilarious thing i have seen today. Ultimately, amidst all the Corona madness, i really had a hearty laughter.
BE KIND, THAT IS THE SOLE PURPOSE YOU ARE IN THIS WORLD, OTHERWISE IT WOULDN’T BE A WORLD.
